Working to be the Best

Gary Barber, Smith County Tax Assessor-Collector (TAC), wants to have the best office in the State of Texas and is willing to put in the time to make that happen. In June at its annual conference, the Tax Assessor-Collectors Association recognized Gary as one of only six TACs to achieve the Professional County Assessor-Collector certification. In order to be eligible for the designation, Gary had to first earn Professional County Collector and County Tax Office Professional certifications, and then complete advanced courses in leadership, team building, Texas law making, and security.

“We want to stay on top of new legislation and new practices so we can operate our office the most efficient way possible,” Barber said in an article published by the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
