Managing Partner Provides Keynote at Her Alma Mater’s Commencement Ceremony

October 17, 2022

Linebarger Managing Partner Bridget Moreno Lopez was honored to serve as the keynote speaker addressing graduates at Texas Tech University School of Law’s 2022 Commencement Ceremony. In her address to the law students of her alma mater, Lopez recalled the story of her upbringing in West Texas, her aspiration to attend to Texas Tech one day, and her desire to achieve greatness there. Despite encountering small bumps in the road, Lopez achieved good marks in her first undergraduate semester at Tech and considered whether a more inclusive student population might ease the path for the students of color that followed her.

During law school, Lopez was determined to help increase the school’s diversity. In Lopez and others’ volunteer efforts, the following class had the largest number of Latino and African American students to date. Lopez graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1999.

Following her service as a child abuse and family violence prosecutor for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Lopez began her work at Linebarger in 2004. At first unsure about making the change to civil law, Bridget was floored by DeMetris Sampson, one of Linebarger’s founding members, to consider the career shift. In her first interview, Sampson told Bridget, “I’m looking for my successor…I want someone that’s going to know the Latino community and represent us well. Diversity among our leadership is one of our core values.”

Throughout her time at Linebarger, Lopez has seen tremendous success, being recognized for numerous awards and distinctions. Reflecting on her journey, Lopez said, “I felt like it wasn’t really about me, but the people who came before me. It was the sacrifice of my grandparents who started out in the fields. It was all the nights my family and I spent working so hard and so long that brought me to the point where other people could hear what I had to say and feel motivated and inspired.”
